Impact of Organic Farming

We are incredibly proud of the success of the COF-III Project, which we implemented in the Bhikyasen block of Almora starting in May 2013. Supported by the Uttarakhand Organic Commodity Board (UOCB), Dehradun, under the SRTT-funded Himmothan Pariyojna, this initiative stands as a major milestone in our mission to empower rural communities.

Our primary objective was to transform loosely connected organic farmers into strong, democratic, and economically viable grassroots organizations. To achieve this, we drove comprehensive capacity-building efforts that enabled farmer groups to independently manage savings, access bank credits, engage in collective bargaining, and optimize their division of labor. Furthermore, we equipped these farmers with modern technologies and skills to significantly enhance their productivity in organic agri-business, processing, and marketing. By establishing direct market linkages through village-level guilds and higher-level marketing networks, we successfully prepared these groups for scaled-up activities and external market supply.

Ultimately, our dedicated efforts have yielded remarkable, measurable results: we successfully formed 20 Organic Producer Sub-Groups across 15 villages, actively empowered 340 farmers, and created sustainable livelihood opportunities that continue to uplift the region.

Supported by UOCB, we transformed organic farming across Almora’s Salt and Nainital’s Betalghat blocks, engaging 13,091 farmers. We consolidated loose collectives into 18 robust, democratic Organic Producer Groups and completed the Internal Control System for 1,926 farmers. By bringing 3,000 hectares under organic cultivation, we established direct market linkages, launched three thriving community enterprises, and hosted trade fairs. Ultimately, our training revitalized traditional practices, scaled sustainable production, and created resilient, lasting livelihoods for the region.

Over a dedicated 12-month period, our organization successfully spearheaded the establishment and execution of 32 Farmers Clubs across the Tarikhet, Bhikyasen, and Salt Development Blocks in the Almora district. Entrusted with this vital mandate by NABARD, we transformed local agricultural landscapes by cultivating robust farming networks, facilitating peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, and driving sustainable rural development. This initiative has significantly strengthened community resilience, empowered local farmers, and laid a strong foundation for long-term agricultural growth in the region.
