Improving Livelihoods In Uttarakhand

Guided by the “Leave No One Behind” principle, the BMZ (German Cooperation), CBM and Sanjeevani partner to advance disability-inclusive development for over 2,500 small and marginal farmers, including 500 persons with disabilities, in Uttarakhand’s Almora district. The project strengthens rural livelihoods through three integrated interventions. First, it champions rights advocacy and social inclusion by establishing inclusive Community-Based Groups and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities, empowering marginalized voices to demand equitable participation. Second, participating farmers receive targeted training in site-appropriate cultivation, alongside reliable access to premium seeds and disability-adapted agricultural tools, substantially boosting crop quality and yields. Third, newly formed inclusive Farmer-Producer Organisations facilitate collective marketing, backed by shared storage facilities, refrigeration units, and direct market linkages. By seamlessly integrating agricultural productivity with disability rights and cooperative enterprise, this initiative cultivates resilient farming networks. Ultimately, the project delivers sustainable socio-economic transformation across vulnerable mountain districts, ensuring equitable prosperity and lasting dignity for all communities.

Community-Based Inclusive Groups & FPOs

250 inclusive CBIGs (10 small farmers each, ≥20% PwDs) formed to drive socio-economic inclusion via training and inputs; two 500-member FPOs market members and target groups produce.

Agri-Hoticulture

The project establishes farm and non-farm demo units, six regional collection and storage hubs for agricultural produce, and two dedicated sales outlets—creating an integrated value chain that empowers producer groups from production to market.

Establishment of a central tree nursery

Establish an accessible central nursery with adaptive tools, prioritizing PwDs in production and access to affordable, locally adapted seeds; post-project, a PwD-inclusive CBIG will sustainably manage it with Sanjeevani's advisory support.

Rehabilitation

It gives rehabilitation and aids to 350+ people with disabilities via therapists and OPDs, enabling their participation in agriculture and achieving economic independence.

Organisations of Persons with Disabilities

Two Independent OPDs will sustain disability advocacy post-project, institutionalizing leadership, preserving gains, and empowering communities for lasting change, while also celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

In Sulah, HRDP with HDFC Bank CSR Parivartan empowers communities beyond infrastructure—building climate‑resilient, gender‑inclusive self‑reliance. Success is surplus: energy, earnings, agency. Progress spreads as villagers lead, health endures, and choices remain local. What begins as support becomes lasting strength, shaping futures without end.

What The Future Holds

Communities are now on their way to becoming proactive problem-solvers, embracing agency and dignity over dependency. Women are taking the lead, farmers are becoming progressive, and youth are taking the lead—making local power a legacy for future generations.
